IPAS urges Jigawa Assembly to pass VAPP Act to law

An international non-governmental organisation (IPAS) has called on Jigawa state house of assembly to pass into law the violence against persons prohibition act in the state.
The IPAS country director Hauwa Shekarau made the called at a two day media training for journalists, on the violence against persons prohibition act held at Tahir guests Palace Dutse Jigawa state.
She explained that, the Jigawa legislators are still working on the act but still looking at rapid increase of rape cases and other sexual violence, the assembly need to faster their effort to save women and girls from the sexual violence.
According to her,the two day training also aimed at boosting journalists with knowledge and skills on how to follow-up and report any sexual violences and ensure the right of the victims is depend.
According to her, IPAS also work tirelessly to eliminate unsafe abortion that could resulting to deaths and injuries by increasing women’s and girls ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights and access to information, services and support.
Sheakarau then urged the media participants to use their media tactics and engage all stakeholders particularly the parents, traditional rulers, government for the success of the programme.
