Former chairman of Congress of the defunct Progressive Change (CPC) in Edo State, Godwin Erhahon, has asked governor Godwin Obaseki to take responsibility for the internal crises in All Progressives.
He stated that the crises in APC, would have abated if Obaseki did not alienate party leaders who gave him the platform to run for governorship election in 2016.
Erhahon who is a Chieftain of APC, said this yesterday in Benin while speaking with journalists in Benin City where he explained that the governor’s action was causing tension in the State.
He however said it is too early for the party chieftains to fight over who gets the party ticket for the 2020 governorship election in the State.
He also said since Governor Obaseki assumed office as governor of the state, the party has been run in a manner that does not encourage the sustainance and promotion of the original foundation of the party.
“Whether Obaseki will contest or not is too early to generate the kind of heat that is generating now in Edo. But, unfortunately Obaseki is responsible for the tension because he has been able to established himself as a man with hatred and egoistic,”
“After the 2016 governorshipprimary election , Obaseki has been hostile to those who contested the primary with and those who did not support him during the primary.
He (Obaseki) has also refused to recognised any of his co-contestant as a leader of the party in the state,”.
According to him, “a good politician, once you emerged as winner from the primary, you do away with all the acrimony during the campaign and bring everybody on board but when you relegated stakeholders and leaders that contested with you there is no way they will not fight for relevance”.
“If Obaseki has not be hostile to too many people the battle would not have been this hot
“It is not absolutely true that all those who are against him are doing in solidarity with former governor Adams Oshiomole but because Obaseki has done everything desperately to suppress party leaders, and we going for another primary, they also want to prove a point that they are relevant,”.
He said because of the governor political naivety, he believe that he can do it with out the party leaders supporting him because the people are clapping that he is doing magic.
“ Even if he has the support of the people, he would only get become the governorship candidate if party leader nominated him”.
Speaking further Erhahon attributed the crisis to some party members accused of misleading the governor to be hostile to others who they perceived as enemy.
He adding the good thing now is that those who mislead and encourage him to be hostile to others are also victims of his hostility.
He lamented that the development persit this long because there is no one to intervene in the matter because he has abandoned the leaders and stakeholders to their fate, describing the campaign by some group that people are against Obaseki because he has refused to share public fund to politicians as a cheap blackmail.
