Date:

From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

Nigeria is said to be a potential poultry exporter not only to the sub sahara region but the entire continent, if all necessary mechanisms are put in place.

The managing Director Agricare, Dr. Fidelis Nworu, disclosed this during a sensitization workshop for poultry farmers in the North West zone held in Kaduna yesterday.

Dr. Nworu added that Nigeria is blessed with natural resources and atmosphere for poultry production but the problem is lack of will power to support the sector by the government and the usage of

outdated poultry production system.

“I will like to give an example of a state, Bayern Munich in Germany, which is the richest state in the German Federation, not only because of the technology but because of its poultry production.

“This state, Bayern Munich, supplies virtually all the European countries, with chickens and eggs. We can also do the same in sub Sahara region if we can only get it right “he said.

Dr. Nworu also called on Nigerians to move from using anti biotic on birds to vaccinations which is safer and for high yield birds.

According to him using ants biotic on birds have a end time results on the consumers and most of the birds related diseases is a result of using anti-biotics.

Speaking earliar, Dr. Asin khan Muhamood of Izovac International, Italy, said poultry farming is a prospective business in Nigeria because the 170million people in Nigeria are consumers of poultry products, indirectly this is to say there is already a readymade market on ground.
