FG commissions Flood Control Works in Enhwe

The Federal Government has commissioned and handed over Flood control works executed through the Ecological Fund Office (EFO), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) for the benefit of Enhwe community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state.
The formal commissioning/ handover ceremony was performed recently by the Director, Soil Erosion and Flood Control, Engr. Felix Okeke on behalf of President Muhamadu Buhari.
Delivering Mr. President’s keynote address, Engr. Felix Okeke re-echoed Muhamadu Buhari’s promise that no part of the country would be left out in his development strive irrespective of tribe religion or political considerations, he also assured the audience of the Present Administration’s commitment to continue with the implementation of all genuine government policies, agreements and contracts at both national and international levels.
Earlier in her speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Habiba Lawal who was represented by the Deputy Director, Soil Erosion and Flood Control, Engr. Udochi Nwachukwu explained to the audience that the project was among the third quarter projects approved by Mr. President in 2018 following a request by the community to help arrest continous flood menace in the area.
While commending the contractor, the consultant and the Ecological Fund Office team for a timely completion of the project, Dr. Lawal stated that the importance of the commissioning and handover exercise which was to enable the host community take over and at the same time exercise ownership over the project in order to ensure its maintenance and sustainability.
Members of Enhwe community testified that the completion of the project has brought a great relief to them as they were no longer experiencing flood this rainy season unlike other past years. Thanking the Federal Government for remembering them and for coming to their rescue, they however wished such projects be extended to their neighbouring communities that are still suffering from flooding and erosion.
It would be recalled that Enhwe community which consists of more than five kindreds was a flood prone area and the scope of the project was to construct water drainages and provide culverts. Drainages were constructed at each kindred all discharging to the ocean. In all a total of 1.4km drains were constructed.
