Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN) said they are embarking on an indefinite strike action nationwide following breakdown of negotiation with the federal Government.
A statement made available to newsmen in Kano by Comrade Abu Enesi Ajoge shortly after an Emergency National Delegates Conference stated that the show down became imperative to press home the Union’s demands to which it said the government had not shown commitments.
Comrade Ajoge noted that the strike action which will be the first to be embarked upon by the Union will be “indefinite and total”, adding that “ until the Federal Government meets it demands of approving the migration of officers on CONTEDISS 11 and below and other sundry issues.”
Ajoge who is also Chairman, FCE Okene branch declared that, “This development will paralyse the Colleges of Education system whose Academic staff had been on strike for the last Ten weeks.”
He said the manner in which the Federal Government had been treating teacher education in Nigeria has become a source of concern as it will further weaken the already weakened teacher education in Nigeria.
He called on members to remain resolute in the face of hopelessness, stressing that “this is the time to recover the soul of the system to make it worthwhile”.
Comrade Ajoge however called on the Federal Government to demonstrate commitment that would lead to the amicable resolution of the industrial dispute for the benefit of Nigerians.
