Kano empowers 300,000 women

About 300,000 women have so far enjoyed different empowerment schemes by the Kano State government since 2011.

This was disclosed by the Kano State commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Binta Tijjani Jibril at a press conference organised for Women’s day celebration at the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat in Kano yesterday.

She stated that the empowerment is the commitment of the state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to alleviate poverty and to create a peaceful and harmonious society.

The commissioner added that the government has succeeded in introducing special health programmes for women and children aimed at creating healthy society.

” This administration, through our ministry, has succeeded in introducing special health programmes aimed at creating healthy society in the state. These programmes include the special medical outreach programme, free repair of VVF victims as well as empowerment and integration, Lafiya Jari scheme to bring genuine medicine closer to the people and strategic effort at improving female medical personnel in the state through sponsorship of 100 female students to study MBBS abroad, 100 for Bsc nursing and 50 for Nursing Tutorship abroad, among other programmes.” She said

“Socially, this administration has rolled out policies and programmes aimed at orienting the society towards peace and security such as, the Special Family orientation Programme that has so far trained 4400 women and young girls on marriage, family values, child care, hygiene and nutrition as well as variety of home-based income generating activities. This is with a view to curbing the menace of high rate of divorce in its attendant consequences,” she added.
