Minimum wage: Masari cautions against heating the polity, agrees to pay

The Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari said he has no problem with the implementation of the new national minimum wage.

Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari was speaking when he received the newly elected officials of katsina State council of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC , under its chairman, Comrade Hussain Hamisu Yanduna during a courtesy call at Government House, Katsina.

The Governor however, explained that upon receipt of the guidelines for the implementation of the new wage, the leadership of the Congress would be invited and the state allocation alongside the guidelines would be tabled to allow for  just implementation of the new salary.

Alhaji Aminu Masari called for caution in the agitations, stressing that one cap should not be made to fit every state in the federating units in Nigeria.

On the request for the appointment of a seasoned labour leader as Special Adviser to the Governor on labour matters, Governor Masari said he absolutely agrees with the request, adding that he has that in mind in the formulation of the next cabinet in the state.

Similarly, the Governor assured that government would reorganize the state Water Board to meet dynamic needs of urban centres.

He spoke at length on efforts by the APC administration not only to revamp the Water Board through Ajiwa Water Works but Zobe Dam as well.

He also commended the excellent cordial working relationship with the previous leadership of labour  and hoped that, the new labour leadership would emulate their predecessors.

Earlier, the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Hussain Hamisu Yanduna told Governor Masari that they were at Government House to introduce themselves after the state delegate conference held in April that saw to their emergence as new leaders of the congress.

Comrade Hussain Hamisu Yanduna spoke on a wide range of issues, which included the Implementation of the new minimum wage, the need to centralise payment of salary of staff of Katsina state Water Board, the need to appoint veteran labour leader as Special Adviser for labour matters and other issues as they affect healthcare and education among others.
