Sen Ibrahim Shekarau (APC, Kano Central) said Nigerians must trust President Muhammadu Buhari on his promise that his next cabinet would be made up of Nigerians who could take the country to the next level.
He said although the nominees sent to the Senate yesterday by the President were yet to appear before them, he hoped that the next team would be better than the last.
On insecurity, Sen Shekarau said he was joining his voice to those is his colleagues in calling on the security personnel to do more.
“As a Senate, we are concerned about the security situation in the country and the incidence of the yesterday (protests by Shiite) is one that shows all is not well with security in the country.
“We have had resolutions calling on the government to do one thing or the other about security. Therefore, I want to join my voice to those of others in calling on the security to do more to curb the security challenges in the country.
“As one of our resolutions we have disclosed that a summit is needed to take a holistic look at the situation.
“We make this call knowing that every nation has its challenges hence, the challenge is for every arm or the government to contribute in curbing it.”
Sen who declared that he was a “green horn in the Senate,” further declared that he was ready to listen and learn “so that we make impact and work with others to move the nation to the level.”
