Paint production: Niger NULGE empowers 100 LG workers

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has organized an intensive training programme for one hundred local government staffs in paint production in Minna.
The President NULGE Niger State Branch, Comrade Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene said yesterday while addressing journalists at the Abdulsalami Youth Centre Minna that, the training would enhance workers’ capacity even after retirement.
According to him, “the idea is to empower local government staff to acquire skills for a dependable source of livelihood after retirement, so that when they retire they will have a trade in hand and not depend squarely on pensions.”
The training which had participants trained in the aspect of production of Emulsion, Textcoat and oil brands of paint comprised of four LGA staffs from each of the twenty five Local Government Areas of Niger State. The trainees were given stipends at the completion of the training to serve as a takeoff grant for the purchase of chemicals and other materials needed for paint production.
While flagging off the second phase of the training of three hundred and fifty women across all the LGAs in the state, Idrees stressed that his administration is poised to empowering members of the Union in various skills acquisition programmes hence the need for other stakeholders to partner with the Union.
In his remarks, President of Millennium Africa Global Iniative, Marshall Okoro expressed readiness to take up the second phase of the training in area of cosmetology, adding that, the initiative has engaged in empowering youths to discover their potentials through engagement in productive activities.
