Be ready to work- FCTA charges nursing students

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has called on successful candidates and prospective students into the FCT school of basic nursing to be dedicated and hardworking for the development of health sector.
The Director of Administration and Finance, Health and Human services Secretariat (HHSS), Alhj. Musa Abdulraheem, made the call in Gwagwalada, during an interview exercise for the prospective students of the FCT School of Nursing.
Abdulraheem said the nursing education is an innovative, evidence-based model for creating a more effective health sector development in the country.
According to him, the students after intensive training and mentoring, will be posted to various hospitals as nursing personnel to advance health development.
“If you are lucky to have been chosen, we advice that you focus on what has brought you here so that at the end of the day you justify your certificate.
“Whoever is ready to work, we will encourage them to graduate as well grounded professionals when they leave here.
“Whatever criteria, we adopted, the students are people that we are training so that at the end of the day we will send them to hospitals to beef up the nurses personnel.
“The FCT Administration is poised to make sure that the school is well funded and infrastructure provided for health development,” he stressed.
On her part, Mrs. Grace Leo, HHSS Acting Director of Nursing, explained that the interview exercise was aimed at selecting the best from each state to ensure adequate service delivery in the health sector.
Leo maintained that only 100 candidates were required and adequate consideration was also given to the indigenes of the FCT as their catchment area.
“Definitely, we need the best candidate from each state so that we will get the interest of every Nigerian represented in the FCT.
“Although the bulk of the admission may go to the FCT indigenes because this is their environment and they are supposed to have at least 30 per cent of whatever we are doing here.
“We are taking at least only 100 candidates as a directive from our Nursing Council and we are trying to get the best out of them for adequate service delivery,” she said.
She however added that the health sector was very paramount on treatments and in saving life’s, hence the need to give the health sector adequate attention cannot be undermined.
