The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday disclosed the arrest of 167 Nigerians for alleged computer-related frauds in its just concluded ‘Operation Rewired’.
This is coming as the anti-graft agency also revealed that it recovered the sum of 169,850 dollars as well as N92 million.
Others recovered during the operation include: four exotic cars, plots of land in Lagos and a property in Abuja.
The arrest and recovery, the Commission said, was in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.
The Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, disclosed this during a press conference in Lagos.
He added that the infamous internet crimes have received global attention and concern, noting that there will be no hiding place for fraudsters in the country.
“The suspected fraudsters arrested in the course of the operation will be persecuted accordingly,” Magu, who was represented by the commission’s Director of Operations, Mr Mohammed Abba, said.
On his part, the FBI’s Legal Attaché, Mr Uche Ahamdi, reiterated the United States of America’s commitment in pursuing organised criminal enterprises poised to the country’s businesses.
