Flood submerges Kogi high court

A High Court in Koton- Karfe, Kogi State has had its fair share of the floods ravaging some parts of the state, thereby momentarily halting proceedings in the court.
Flood has submerged the entire building housing the High Court and the magistrate Court, along Okpareke road in the ancient town , displacing the judicial officers and other staff of the judiciary working there.
The ugly development has compelled the staff to abandon their duty post, watching with disbelief from a nearby distance, even as they await further directive on the next line of action.
Speaking during an inspection visit to the area, the state Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah disclosed that the High Court would be relocated momentarily from the area to the upper area court, pending when permanent solution would be found on the matter.
He said flooding in the area have become a recurrent issue, adding that he would meet with the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, with a view to relocating the High Court, and find a lasting solution to the problem.
The chief judge who disclosed that the natural disaster has equally affected some courts in Ibaji local government area of the state, further averred that he cannot estimate what the judiciary in the state had lost to the current flooding ravaging the state.
While stressing that the director of estate management was already collating what they had lost so far, he equally revealed that the paramount ruler in the area, the Ohimege, Igu was looking at the possibility of allocating a suitable land for the judiciary, so as to solve the problem once and for all.
