Alleged N113m scam: Ex-Edo SSG in prison decries poor facilities

Former Secretary to Edo State government, Dr Simon Imuekemhe has allegedly decried poor state of facilities in Benin prisons.

Imukemhe and four other persons, David Eson Igbnoba, Joseph Sule, Emoabino and Aghator Gaskin Efe were on Monday, remanded in prison custody in connection with alleged N113 million missing universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) fund.

They were remanded by Edo State High court presided over by Justice Esther Edigin ahead of Friday 14th, March pending the determination of bail application brought before the court by the Counsel to the accused persons facing trial on 8 count charge preferred against them by the Economic and Financial crimes commission (EFCC) will be heard.

The former SSG said Imuekemhe allegedly requested for medical treatment outside the prisons complex which was granted, following complaints of his deteriorating health in Oko Medium prisons on Tuesday.

Public Relations Officer of Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), Mr. Aminu Suleiman who confirmed the report, said Imuekemhe was actually received by prisons officials on Monday afternoon.

“Ordinarily, he (Imuekemhe) was remanded in prison yesterday (Monday).

We take anybody in prisons for treatment. It is part of our operational process, especially for people who are not too well”, he said.
