Flood: IDPs in disarray in Delta over alleged neglect

Displaced persons following flood menace in Oshimili South communities in Delta state are currently in disarray over alleged neglect by the state government.
Investigation revealed that various camps in Asaba and its environs have no shelters and food supply to the victims, many of whom have dumped the camps for refuge elsewhere and where they could eke a living for themselves.
But the state government in a swift reaction through the commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Mofe Pirah said that the state government was on top of the situation adding that every IDP camps would be properly accommodated and taken care of.
While confirming that the Oneh IDP camp was over pupolated , the commissioner however assured that the state government was already creating other camps to accommodate those who were yet to be accommodated.
The IDPs in the state have spent over four days and nights at Oneh Primary School, awaiting documentation and attendance by the appropriate authorities as those affected include: women, children, senior citizens and even sick persons who reported to camp later than some of their counterparts, who had already checked in.
According to some of the IDPs,”we had spent over four nights in the open fields, exposed to cold, rain and mosquito bites, we had no choice but to endure with our children under such harsh conditions and we appeal to the state government to come to their rescue”
They lamented the losses as a result of the floods, even as they remained optimistic of settling down as the time of filing this report but efforts were on top gear to prepare Ahamba Primary School to accommodate these stranded IDPs.
Meanwhile, the IDPs who had settled down expressed gratitude to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the state government for ameliorating their plight and providing them with food, water, security and other basic necessities in camp.
It would be recalled that the Okowa led administration had acted proactively by settling up a flood committee in readiness for the floods expected to hit the state as predicted by several metrological agencies in the country.
