Security expert proposes strategy for containing insecurity

The Chief Consultant of Halogen Security, Col. Ojo Kadiri (rtd), has advocated a two-pronged approach to tackling insecurity in the country.

He also gave an insight into why the activities of Boko Haram persists in the country despite attempts by the federal government to stop it.

Ojo spoke at an interactive session on the forthcoming Securex Security Exhibition organised by Montgomery West Africa, which commences next week in Lagos.

The security expert also identified lack of effective intelligence gathering and execution on the part of the government as one of the banes of the system, adding that there is no machinery to manage intelligence in the country.

“We need to harmonise the two; industrial and state security if we are really serious about tackling insecurity in the country. The insurgents are most vulnerable when they go out for information for their next target. We need to identify this, we need to get the information and interpret it intelligently. Personally, I don’t think we are managing information the way we should manage it in this country”, he stressed.

Managing Director, Montgomery, West Africa, Tori Abiola, said that the security exhibition was in partnership with various security companies and agencies both in the country and abroad.

Amosun presents bills on regional planning, public procurement to lawmakers From James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has forwarded two executive bills on urban and regional planning and the state Council on Public Procurement and the Bureau of Public Procurement to the state House of Assembly for its consideration and passage.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi, made this public at Tuesday’s plenary while reading two letters from the governor.

In the meantime, the Assembly has committed the bill titled “HB NO 37/OG/2013, The Ogun State College of Nursing Establishment Law, 2013” to two House committees on health as well as education, science and technology for further legislative action.

Speaking before the bill was committed to the committees, the Majority Leader, Israel Jolaoso said it was essential to provide legal framework for the academic activities of the colleges of nursing in the state, adding that the proposed law would make provision for the setting up of a governing council for them.
