Gov’t urged to relocate FCT Muslims Board to Sharia Court facility

Date:

Worried by the seemingly under-utilization of government property, a group, Abuja Concern Facility Managers (ACFM), has called on FCT Administration to immediately relocate the FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to the premises of Sharia Court located in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
The group, said the call for the relocation has become necessary in view of depreciating value of the structure due to under-utilization of the property originally built to accommodate staff of Sharia court.
In a statement issued in Abuja by ACFM Coordinator, Malam Abdulrasheed Abubakar, and made available to newsmen at the weekend, noted that after taking inventories of government property in Gwagwalada Area Council, it has come to a reasonable conclusion that the property housing the Sharia court should be put to effective use to avoid wastage of government resources.
The group observed that it makes no economic sense when some government agencies are battling with office accommodation, while other office accommodations are under-utilized, stressing that there was the need to curtain wastage both in government and private sector.
The statement reads: “It might interest you to know that our members who were in the tour of Gwagwalada Area Council with the FCT Minister of State came back with a daming report of gross under-utilization of Sharia court building.
“However, we are happy that the minister also express the same concern of under-utilization of the edifice when she visited Gwagwalada. The building is almost abandoned for skeletal services, whereas they are going about their businesses in rented apartments.
“It is disturbing that the Mulsim Prigrims Welfare Board saddles with the responsibility of pilgrims welfare, training, and issuance of passport are sharing apartment with other agencies of government. It is our candid view that the building housing the Sharia court should be allocated to FCT Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for effective use.
“That will not only return sanity to Mulsim Prigrims Welfare Board and quality work atmosphere, but it will also give the inhabitants and indigines of Gwagwamada an economy boost and much desire of the operation of the Hajj back to area council.”
