Bauchi pensioners want N6bn backlog gratuity paid

Bauchi state Chapter of Pensioners has appealed to federal, state and local governments to pay the arrears of backlog of Six billion Naira pensions and gratuity of pensioners

The state Chairman of Pensioners Association in Bauchi, Alhaji Habu Gar and that of Bauchi Local Government Pensioners Association, Alhaji Yahaya Umar, made the plea in a joint Press conference held at the NUJ Secretariat Bauchi.

According to Gar the backlog of pension and gratuity owned by the pensioners is over 6bn and so, they appealed to the government at all levels to pay them their money in order to help them meet their family obligations.

Habu Gar said government has not paid the retired workers gratuity for the past seven months and there are pensioners who were not included in the pension scheme three months after they retired, while there were those who lost their lives waiting for pension even as others took ill, “we have pensioners who are paralyzed”. He stated.
