Court restrains police from forcefully ejecting legal practitioner

A kaduna Principal District Court sitting in kaduna yesterday restrained the Commandant Police College Kaduna who is the first defendant in a matter before it from ejecting a legal practitioner Barrister Abdullahi Barau from his property at Number 2 Shooting Range Road kaduna until the final determination of the suit before the court.
The order signed by the District Judge Zainab Garba Muhammad and dated 28 October was as a result of a motion Ex-parte brought before the court by the legal practitioner and seven others.
The order set aside oral seven day notice issued by the Commandant for the plaintiffs to vacate the premises within seven days.
It will be recalled that Barrister Abdullahi Barau has raised alarm over alleged attempt by Police Authority to take over his property in Kaduna.
Acccording to him the property in contention was for the Police College, Kaduna until it was sold to the lawyer’s uncle, who later transferred ownership to him.
From information gathered ,the choice property located on Swimming Pool Road ,Kaduna as at Saturday when our Correspondent visited was under sieged by some police officers ,who claimed they were sent to guard the house on order of “Oga” , without any formal letter or court order .
Barrister Barau who narrated his ordeal with the police said, the most disturbing part of the whole issue is that a seven- day ultimatum has been issued to pack out of the house or face forceful eviction.
The legal practitioner who said he had lived in the house for over eight years narrated how the property was acquired and right of ownership given after Federal government sold it .
