Talakawa Parliament, a Civil society group, has berated Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki over closure of a section of New Era College, barely three years after the edifice was commissioned for use.
A former governor of the State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole reconstructed, Commissioned and renamed the public school was named after late Brig-General Samuel Ogbemudia, former governor of the defunct Bendel State on November 7, 2016.
Addressing reporters during a protest match to the State ministry of Education, Iyaro in Benin City, the Speaker of Talakawa Parliament, Marxist Kola Edokpayi, wondered why government Officials in the State live in affluence, send their Children to School abroad and make Children of the downtrodden whose parents and Guardians pay taxes to suffer unduly.
He said students have been denied access to the facility since it was inaugurated in November 7, 2016.
Edokpayi, described the behaviour of the government as the height of ignominy, said members of the non-partisan group will occupy the Streets in Benin City if the government fails to re-open the facility within one week.
The Speaker of the group, alleged that the facility has become a hideout for criminal activities.
He described the recent award conferred on the Governor on Abuja by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) as the best Governor of the year 2019 as undeserving.
“We have the capacity to demand for accountability in governance. We are here this morning to send a clear message to the Governor that power is transient and should deploy it wisely.
“Education is a veritable weapon to liberate the human society from mental slavery”, he said.
