The Executive Secretary (ES) of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mr. Anthony Ojukwu has commended Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) for conducting a roundtable talk on xenophobic attacks in South Africa saying it was apt.
Oiukwu who made this known yesterday at the Institute’s office in Abuja during a roundtable on xenophobic attacks in South Africa and its implications on Nigeria’s peace and security stated that Human Right Commission as a body released a statement condemning the attack immediately it happened even at African regional level.
Ojukwu said that everybody must join hand to dialogue for peaceful resolution of the matter.
He expressed optimism that the issue will be resolved amicably giving the fact that the two leaders, Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Cyril Ramaphosa have started dialoguing at the highest level.
Speaking also, the Director General of National Orientation Agency who was represented by FCT Director, Mr. David Manya Dogo noted that there is big discussion already at the highest diplomatic level and urged that the roundtable should follow that perspective.
He said that the continuous attack may have shown that South African government seems to have lost control and suggested that we can approach the issue through grassroots engagement in form of town hall meeting.
The representative of MTN Nigeria, Mrs. Ifeoma Nkata pledged MTN’s commitment towards obeying the law of the nation and doing everything to fight xenophobic attack anywhere everywhere.
She explained that MTN is Nigerian owned company with South African origin. This was against the popular belief that it was wholly owned by South Africans.
