Akwa Starlets maintain good form with win over Warri Wolves

Date:

Isaac George scored his 4th goal of the season, a penalty against Warri Wolves to earn his side, Akwa Starlets another win as they continue their fine form in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The team continues to win at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, this being their second of the campaign.
George scored in the 75th minute and it was enough.
The first half did see the host with a greater ball possession while Warri Wolves registered no attempt at goal.
The very first chance at goal for Akwa Starlets came midway into the first half, with a shot from Femi Ajayi on target but was pushed away for a corner by the Warri Wolves keeper, Ocheayi Richards.
In the 74th minute, Aniekan Ekpe won a penalty for the home team which was converted by Isaac George a minute later.
Akwa Starlets coach, Caleb Esu simply thanked God for the win, adding that his players were anxious to score, causing them to miss lots of chances.
“We want to appreciate God for today’s win. The players were a little bit tensed and anxiety set in for us,” Esu said after the game.
“Our aim remains to stay in the NPFL for another season.”
Evans Ogenyi of Warri Wolves also blamed anxiety as one of the negatives for his team on the day.
“My boys were anxious, but we will still take home some positives from the game even though we lost,” Ogenyi said.
“My boys failed to take their chances but it takes nothing away from Akwa Starlets. They are a good side.”
