CBN begins cashless campaign in Jos

CBN bars banksThe Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday in Jos began an awareness campaign on the cashless policy for stakeholders before July first 2014 deadline.

Represented by the CBN Branch controller in Jos, Mathias Kurah, the acting governor, Sarah Alade said the sensitizing campaign was holding concurrently in other states of the country.

She said that the policy was aimed at restructurings the Nigerian financial system and addressing the current difficulties encounter and changing the country into a first world economy.

She further said that if communities would adopt cashless policy, the CBN would broaden its financial contact points to include post offices, motor parks and corner shops. She explained that the cashless policy intends to reduce and not eliminate the use of physical cash payment in Nigeria and other ills associated with a cash centered economy such as robberies, election rigging, revenue leakage, kidnapping etc.

Aminu Yadumu who was a stakeholder said during the campaign that state government officials and businessmen should take up the policy seriously.
