Police arrest 2 robbers with cache of Ak47 in Benue

Men of the Police Special Operation known as “Operation Zenda operating in Benue, yesterday arrested two suspected armed robbers with illegal cache of AK47 rifle and other live ammunitions.
The duo were arrested in a commercial vehicle during a stop and search operation at a security check point along Makurdi – Gboko Express Road while on their way to Nasarawa State.
According to police authority, the two suspects, Usman Saleh, and Ibrahim Alhaji, native of Fulani extraction reside in Awe, Nassarawa State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene who confirmed the incident, said she was yet to get full details even though the suspect were arrested in attempt to escape after operatives discovered rounds of live ammunition in their possession.
It should be noted that there is apprehension amongst Benue indigenes especially farmers during the dry season for fear of possible attack as it usually the time of the year when herders graze into the Benue Valley with their cattle.
Recently some stakeholders had passionately appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the tenure of Operation Whirl stroke, in Benue, to continue to maintain peace in the state. Amongst them is the State Governor Samuel Ortom and Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev Akpen Leva.
