2020: Residents assured of improved monitoring of projects

In order to ensure better and effective service delivery to residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
the Department of Monitoring and Inspection has declared that there will be no compromise on standards.
Making this assertion, the Director in charge of the Department, TpL Olawale Labiyi, said it is set to surpass its achievements of 2019 by strengthening all its divisions.
Labiyi reiterated that the work of the Department is to monitor projects that is meant to serve the interests of the public, and any attempt to lower standards means that the public will be shortchanged.
The Director, who spoke during the Department’s first management meeting of the year, reminded the staff to re-strategise on how to improve in 2020.
According to him, the main goal of 2020 is to ensure that the Department does not compromise on standards.
He said: “We have to look at what we set out to achieve in 2019, what we were able to achieve, what we could not achieve and the reasons behind it.”
He noted that part of what the Department achieved in 2019 was procurement of 3 utility vehicles, the strengthening of feedback and Implementation Division with more staff and utility vehicles.
He added that oher areas of achievement were the ability of the Project Monitoring division to handle more files, visit far flung areas for Inspection because of the allocation of two vehicles to them.
He equally revealed that the inspectorate Division was also modified with additional schedules of duty which saw the division handling the inspection of supplies of different Secretariats Departments Agencies (SDAs).
Labiyi therefore expressed joy over the creation of the Public Relations unit, which according to him, has seen the public getting more information about the FCT through the activities of the Department.
Similarly, the Head of Regional Division, Mr. Stephen Ayakpat, noted that in 2020, there was a need to take cognisance of security to enable the Division achieve more.
According to him, they will require security escorts to ensure safety of lives during Monitoring exercises in remote areas.
Not left out, the Head of Inspectorate Division, Mrs. Ada Okenyi, advocated for periodic, unscheduled visits to facilities, especially capital projects, which according to her will add value to the work of the Department.
