Kebbi govt to complement UNICEF efforts on education

The Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has said that his administration will complements UNICEF efforts in promoting education sector.
In a Press statement signed by its Special Adviser on Media Alhaji Yahyay Sarki said that the Governor promised he will be doing everything possible to compliment the UNICEF in the education sector even with lack of enough financial resources.
“I expressed my intention of doing something more revolutionary beyond what the World Bank was doing in the educational sector of Kebbi State to put things right within the limited resources of the state” he added.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu stated this in Government House,Birnin Kebbi yesterday while welcoming Professor Abubakar Abdullahi Bagudo, a consultant appointed by the federal government to oversee the implementation of Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) program in Kebbi State.
Bagudu pointed out that Nigeria, among the developing countries of the world was not putting enough money in the education sector deliberately but because there was paucity of funds.
“Nigeria among developing countries is not putting enough money in education not because not because there is no effort on the part of government, but because the resources is not just there “,he said.
He said since his assumption in office from 2015, the state spends between 25 to 28 billion naira annually on education which according to him was not adequate.
Bagudu appealed for understanding of the stakeholders especially the international development partners that lack of adequate resource hampers the capability of government effort in the education.
He called on the development partners to support the efforts of Government by filling the gap or shortfall in financial resources.
Earlier, Professor Abubakar Abdullahi Bagudo told the governor that he was appointed as a consultant by the federal government to supervise the implementation of BESDA program in the state.
According to him , the BESDA program was 5 year program being implemented in 17 state of Nigeria including Kebbi State by World Bank with the primary aim of reducing the number of out of school children, improve girl child and nomads education.
He enumerated some of the achievements so far recorded by the program in Kebbi State and solicited for the full support of the state government towards the success of the program in Kebbi State.
The professor was accompanied by Commissioner, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Rafaatu Hammani and BESDA team led by Malan Hassan Umar who is the desk officer of the program in Kebbi State.
