Nigeria, Germany to partner on regular migration

Nigeria and the German government have expressed resolve to collaborate towards promoting regular Migration as well as support voluntary return of irregular Migrants of Nigerian origin.
This was disclosed during a meeting between the Federal Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed and a German delegation to the Commission led by the Minister of State in the Federal Chancellery and Federal Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, Annette Widmann Mauz.
Senator Basheer reaffirmed the commitment of Nigerian government to the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration at the national and sub- national levels, assuring that Nigeria will continue to advocate for joint bilateral agreements with the government of Germany for the promotion of regular migration instead of the risk being taken by many Nigerians, crossing the Sahara Desert and Meditarrenean Sea.
The Commissioner also commended the visiting team for the efforts being made by the German government towards assisting Nigerians in Germany who have voluntarily decided to return home
Accordingly, the Commissioner announced that government was doing everything possible to enlighten citizens on the various opportunities for economic emancipation in Nigeria which returnees can take advantage of.
The leader of German delegation in her remarks, acknowledged the vital position of Nigeria within the African continent in the area of availability of skilled labour, stressing their desire to support regular Migration for persons with required skills.
According to Annette, the visit to Nigeria is an integral part of the first phase of Germany’s National Action Plan for Integration.
