Good governance: Gov Bala threatens to sack erring council chairmen

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has threatened to sack any local government caretaker committee chairman who errs in the discharge of his statutory responsibility.
The governor threatened the chairmen when the caretaker chairmen of the 20 local government areas visited him at the Council Chamber, Government House Bauchi.
He said he will not condone any act of discipline, as he urged them to live up to expectations.
The governor advised them to work in synergy with relevant stakeholders, traditional rulers and their councilors to ensure effective service delivery.
He pledged to release more funds to local government areas to enable them meet the needs of the people.
While expressing satisfaction on the performance of some of the chairmen, the governor fumed at how some of them use their position to engage in illegal acts.
Governor Bala called on them to assist the state government to fish out ghosts workers in their various councils so that employment opportunities will be created.
The caretaker chairman, Bauchi local government area, who spoke on behalf of the 20 caretaker chairmen, assured the governor that they will work to ensure that the masses reap the dividends of democracy.
