Varsity Don urges Nupe political leaders to remain committed

A University lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Abuja, Prof. Dagaci Aliyu Manbe, has called on the Nupe political office holders to always remain committed and focused in providing purposeful leadership capable of satisfying the aspirations of their people.
He also advised the Nupe leaders to be transparent as well as accountable to the electorate who voted them into power, urging them to have the feelings of humanity at their heart.
Manbe, who made the call in an interview with Peoples Daily Correspondent after he presented a paper tagged “The Nupe People and the Challenges of Development in the Contemporary Nigeria” during the 2nd annual cultural celebration of Nupe Yegborolo Association on Saturday in Kwali.
He further charged the Nupe leaders to initiate Programmes and policies that will arrest the problems of illiteracy, unemployment, poverty and inequality.
His words: “The Nupe political leaders should remain transparent in serving the people and not serving themselves. They should be able to see that the global political system is a system that requires support of the people. That no level of representation can be recognized without visible impacts of the people you are representing”.
He, however, tasked the Nupe people to be on the front banner in terms of developmental agenda for the sake of younger ones yet unborn.
Prof. Manbe, who is the Director in charge of the Institute for Legislative Studies at the University of Abuja, pleaded with the leadership of the Nupe Yegborolo Association to continue to give the necessary agenda that would promote development, and urged the Nupe people to send their children to school.
Also speaking, the President of Nupe Social Development Association (NUSDA) in the FCT, Alhaji Jibrin Makun, advised the entire Nupe people in Abuja to speak with one voice, as well respect their elders.
Makun used the occasion to appeal to the Nupe highly placed individuals to provide jobs for Nupe sons and daughters whenever there are vacancies in the government establishments.
On his part, the chairman of Yegborolo Association in Kwali chapter, Mallam Mohammed Sule Kandi, called on both the executives and members to come together to move the association to the next level.
Kandi urged the Nupe people to always speak their native languages with their children, and said by doing this they are inculcating cultural values on them.
