FCT hospitals treated .4m patients in 6 months, says minister

A total number of 413,642 patients were attended to by the 12 Secondary Hospitals and Health Institutions under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), from mid-August 2013 and mid February 2014.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, made this disclosure at the weekend after meeting with some senior officials of the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Muhammad Sule, yesterday, the minister revealed that out of this, 248,099 patients were for General Out Patient comprising of 152,447 adults, 85,012 children and 10,640 accident and emergency cases.

“These health institutions include Rubochi, Abaji, Kwali, Kuje, Karshi, Nyanya, Bwari, Kubwa General Hospitals as well as Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse and Gwarinpa District Hospitals,” the statement quoted the minister.

He further disclosed that a total number of 60,271 pregnant women attended the free antenatal programme of the FCT Administration between the same period comprising of 14,517 and 45,752; new and old registered pregnant women respectively.

Mohammed also revealed that under specialist clinics like gynecology, surgical, medical, pediatrics, dental, ophthalmology as well as HIV/AIDS; about 91,012 were attended to in the FCT Hospitals.

According to him, a total number of 14,260 patients were officially admitted in the FCT Health facilities during the same period under review with 10,644 patients discharged.

He noted that the FCT Administration’s secondary hospitals recorded 9,652 deliveries during the period with 7,747 as normal deliveries; 1,865 C/S deliveries and 14 numbers of instrumental deliveries.

The minister reiterated that there were 3,467 surgical operations comprising of 2,250 major; 520 intermediate and 697 minor operations.

Mohammed reinstated that the FCT Administration is more than ever committed to deliver quality health services to the residents of the FCT, in line with the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
