An Islamic sect, Jamaatu Izalatil Bid’a Waikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to organise a national prayer session.
The prayer session, it said, was to seek divine intervention over the current security challenges facing the country.
JIBWIS National Chairman, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala-Lau, made the plea yesterday at a forum organised by the group at the Emir of Zazzau’s palace in Zaria, Kaduna state.
“Nigeria as a country has numerous problems threatening its socio-economic and political growth and of course the peaceful coexistence and collective wellbeing of the citizenry.
“The current security challenges had become a serious problem not only to Nigeria but to other neighbouring African countries, hence the need to tackle it head-on.
“The best way to tackle such problems is by organising a national prayer among different faiths with the aim of seeking Allah’s mercies so that prevailing peace is restored to Nigeria,” Bala – Lau said.
Also speaking at the forum, a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Giro Arugungu, cautioned Muslims against acts that were against the teachings of the faith.
Arugungu stressed the need for Muslims to genuinely believe in God in all aspects of their lives. (NAN)
