The Federal Government said it has acquired modern and sophisticated equipment to curtail the activities of insurgents and all other criminalities across the country.
A statement issued at the weekend by C.E. Nwodo, Director of press at the Ministry of Defence, said the minister, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (Rtd) made the revelation while presenting a paper titled “Securing the Nation for Socio-Economic Development” organized by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Policy Development and Analysis with the theme: “Actualizing the Next Level Agenda”.
Maj. Gen. Magashi, while appraising the security situation in Nigeria noted the Armed Forces would have done better if there has been sufficient budgeting by successive past administrations, and also the absence of sanctions on Nigeria by USA and EU on Military procurements.
“This Government is not leaving any stone unturned to bolster the morale of the soldiers, with a view to restoring people’s confidence and love for them.
“The Federal Government has decided to put up new approach to solving security challenges through the newly signed National Security Strategy (NSS 2019), which has provided a broader picture of our possible threats to the National unity.”
He therefore suggested a coordinated way by providing vision and missions that will embrace robust security architecture for Nigeria.
The Minister also informed the gathering that other measures taken by Government include; Border Management Services which according to him, will be responsible for curbing the security menace at the borders.
“The recent activation of the Migration Information and Data Analysis System by the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja is yet another way forward as other airports will soon enjoy the same facility.
“This system will provide automatic queries to INTERPOL Databases and relevant watch lists in order to detect travel documents and individuals potential link to transnationally organized crimes, including human trafficking and migrant smugglers.”
