Fire destroys 47 houses in Nasararwa, says NEMA

The Executive Secretary of Nasarawa Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Barrister Zakariah Zamani Alumaga has said that, so far 47 houses were raised down across the state as a result of fire disaster ranging from the month of January – March, 2020 as according to him “This is an unfortunate incidence that has ravaged some households in the state.”
Barrister Alumaga who made this known in an interview with our correspondent in his office along Shedam Road, Lafia, the State Capital yesterday.
According to him “Fire disaster hit nearly every local government council in the state. We have 47 reported cases of fire incidences which razed down automatically houses. We have some unknown cases. Others are as a result of electricity and Gas Explosions.”
He continued “Most cases are caused by electricity and Gas Explosions. We are conducting Biometric of the affected houses now.”
The State Government is working earnestly to ensure that the affected persons would have some assistance. We are compiling the list for effective record of properties cremated in all the affected homes in the state.”
The Executive Secretary further opined that the Agency has so far embarked on an extensive sensitization on the causes of fire disaster and its preventive measures aimed at educating the residents to adopt precaution measures in order to avoid further occurrences.
“Fire is not our friend, but it is a necessity. Once if you use it, put it off whether electricity or gas. If it is a naked fire, pour water to put it off. You need fire only when it is necessary. We should be watchful by maintaining our electrical appliances in order to avoid fire outbreaks in our respective homes” Alumaga maintained.
