Ward congresses tear Jigawa PDP apart

In what appeared to be a struggle for party dominance, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congresses have divided the party ‎into two factions, one belonging to the party leadership and another to a former gubernatorial candidate.
The party initially fixed last saturday to conduct the ward congresses, but due to the bye-election for the deceased member representing Garki/Babura constituency in the state, the congresses were shifted to yesterday.
As early as 8:00am monday, supporters of ‎former PDP gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, stormed the state PDP secretariat challenging the state leadership of the party that nobody was screened for the congresses, shouting that justice must be done to all party members.
Speaking on behalf of the former gubernatorial candidate’s faction, Alhaji Adamu Hassan Abunabo, who identified himself as coordinator of the faction said, “we are in the state party secretariat to meet, discuss and present our complaints to the congress committee who were nominated from the national body Abuja”.
Alhaji Abunabo who lamented that the party was divided into two factions, demanded that the committee should cancel any congress process started before their arrival to the state party secretariat.
On their part, the leadership of the party at the state level, said the ward congress has comenced since morning, as all due process was‎ followed accordingly.
The state party chairman, Alhaji Salisu‎ Mamuda Ku’it, confirmed this while speaking to news men at party secretariat.
“As I am speaking to you now, the wards congresses has already been conducted at 287 political wards in Jigawa state‎, and all due process was followed right from screening of the contestants up to voting point and every party member was given his right according to PDP constitution”, he said.
While making his remarks at the state Party headquarters, the chairman of the congress committee, Sanator Musa Hamma Misau, said all the two factions are PDP members and would be treated equally with justice.
“We are nominated from the PDP national headquarters to monitor the ‎congresses in Jigawa, for justice and transparency to all, and we will not entertain any election before our arrival to the state,” he said.‎
