Coronavirus: Edo govt suspends collection of revenues from transporters

Edo State government on Thursday suspended collection of revenues from transporters and vowed to enforce the directive of reducing the number of passengers carried by commuters in the state.
The new regulation makes it an offence for a bus driver to carry more than one passenger on his front seat and two passengers on each roll while taxi driver cannot carry more than one passenger in front and two at the back per toll.
The announcement which was contained in public announcement that was signed by Mr Osarodion Ogie, Secretary to the State Government, however said the suspension is for the month of April 2020.
Recall that commercial vehicle drivers had on Tuesday called for the suspension of collection revenues by the agents of government in a bid to ease their daily financial burden and support in containing the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Osarodion stated that the various security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the government directive.
The SSG said that the ban on gatherings of not more than 20 persons is still in force while all businesses remain closed except markets for food items, pharmaceutical products and eateries in the State.
He emphasise the need for social distancing of at least one metre and maintain safe sanitary practice and hand washing to keep safe.
