Lockdown: Police warn against night journey in Adamawa

Date:

From Umar Dankano,Yola.

The Adamawa state Police Command has warned the members of the organised transport sector and other motorists against night journeys or face tough consequences.
Spokesman of the Command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje made the disclosure in a press statement issued Thursday in Yola stressing that the command has discovered that some commercial drivers are in the habit of breaching the lockdown order by traveling in the night with passengers.
“A development that has proven to be counterproductive as it undermines the tireless efforts of the government at curbing the spread of the deadly COVID 19 diseases.
“This warning is sequel to intelligence at the disposal of the command showing that road transport workers especially interstate operators, town service drivers and tricycle operators have continued to defy the lockdown order and cessation of movements emplaced by the government as they embark on night journeys carrying passengers.
“Consequently the CP has directed Assistant commissioners of police and DPOs to ensure full implementation of the restriction order especially as it relates to night travel without being unmindful of categories of exempted persons and fundamental human rights of citizens”.The statement added
However, the Commissioner of police Audu Madaki has also called on the leaderships of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW,The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria,RTEAN as well as Public Transport Owners of Nigeria Association to warn their members to strict to the restrictions as violators will be dealt with accordingly.
