The Senator representing Sokoto Central in the National Assembly, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Maccido, has denied ever accusing the Sultanate of partisanship.

In a statement signed by his aide, Mohammed Arzika Kammata, the Senator said such statement credited to him by the state chapter of APC were untrue and were meant to cause acrimony among the royal family.

The statement described the Sultanate Council as non-partisan institution that treats everybody equally without recourse to being a member of ruling or opposition party.

The statement averred that nowhere in the said interview had the Senator linked the Sultanate Council to any politician or any political party.

“To make the record straight and clear, in the said interview, Senator Maccido said considering his principles and policies of consultations, after contacts with the institution, he realised that the best bet for that institution was for him to remain in the PDP.

“By this statement Senator Maccido meant that, his political ideology and inclination is more of a PDP as a party than any other political platform that has no focus and sincerity to take the Nigerians to the promise land. Thus, the reason for his unflinching support and loyalty to the party that gave him chance twice to represent his constituency in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” it further stated.

He also stated that as a member of the royal family of the Sokoto Caliphate and traditional title holder of the Mainan Sokoto, he would continue to hold the revered traditional institution of Sokoto Caliphate in high esteem.

“We believe strongly that in fair play and justice. Therefore, if APC is ready to wrestle party with the incumbent Senator let them come out and challenge him in 2015 and see how they will be disgraced, because majority of the people of his constituency are with him,” the statement read.
