Stop blowing siren while chasing armed robbers, ex-judge tells police

A former judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High court of Justice, Hon. Mwada Balami, has urged the policemen across the country to stop blowing sirens while chasing armed robbers at the scene of the robbery or incident, saying that by blowing sirens the policemen are giving signals to the criminals to run away.
He also charged the policemen to stop using marked vehicles to put armed robbers on notice, adding that police should use unmarked vehicles to disguise themselves to the scene of the robbery to avoid being trapped by the criminals.
Balami, who stated this while speaking with newsmen after the inauguration of the Divisional Community Policing Committee (DCPC) at the Gwagwalada Police Divisional Headquarters.
He said being one of the members of the committee they would deem it necessary to advise the policemen on how best they would tackle the security issues in the area.
His words: “The policemen will not do it alone. They need our cooperation because we are living with the criminal everyday in our communities”.
He called on the policemen to take the vigilante groups along in the struggle of combating crime in Gwagwalada and its environs, while pleading for incentives for the vigilante groups in the area.
Balami, however, commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Gwagwalada Police Divisional Headquarters, CSP Dankwano Wilson for using his personal vehicle to go after the criminals in the area.
