A Group under the auspices of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria and Chairman Nigeria Citizen Action Group has called on the Federal Goverment to scrap the Niger Delta Development Commission and North East Development Commission as they have become irrelevant.
The president of the Group Isa Abubakar stated this in a statement made available to media in kaduna yesterday
The statement added that the two commission are not longer serving there purposes of fast tracking developments rather an avenue to loot the regional resources by limited few. These two agency have been run has private property.
“With the audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission one will not exitate to say that if similar committee is set to investigate the North East Development Commission both will have little or no difference.
“The two commission are never needed if all government agency are very proactive, effective, transparent to there responsibility.
“”It’s a stated fact that from 2000 till date over 20 Trillion Naira have been looted in NDDC alone this quantum amount of money can transform a Nation not Region. Only 1.1% of the total population of that region benefit from this curupt setting of government.
“Moreover, the Minister of Niger Delta should Voluntary resigned to enable proper investigation of the entire Ministry and Commission, the Minister who is known for his outstanding corrupt practices while he was governor, some of us wondered why Mr President would have selected him to be part of his cabinet, a man with absolute questionable character with a file in the EFCC Headquarters.
