Foundation Calls for family court to try rape cases

A group under aegis of Arridah Relief Foundation has called for establishment of family court to try rape cases in Kaduna state.
The founder of the organization, Hajiya Rabi Ibrahim Salisu, stated this while speaking to the media in Kaduna yesterday.
According to her, Kaduna should borrow a leaf from Lagos and Oyo states where family courts has been established to try gender-based violence and rape cases.
She added that the court has led to accelerated judgments and within four to five months, suspects are convicted and sentenced. But here in Kaduna state suspects would be in magistrate court for a long period before the file is returned to the Ministry of Justice for advice.
She said this is very discouraging, saying that if judgments are quickly passed, it will serve as a deterrent to others.
Speaking on a recent call for castration for rapists, Hajiya Salish, said this is not new because in 2016 her organization was part of the people that contributed to the Child Right Bill and they supported castration as punishment.
“We will have sanity in our society, we are in support of castration, if they castrate them let them leave them and go back to society. If they bring castration and implement it in Kaduna, it will be in our favour. Castration is the best key to all this rape problems,” she said.
