Zamfara state government has announced the conclusion of its plan to destroy and fill up all personally constructed water reservoirs that prevent the circulation of pumped, treated water meant for the usage of populace in Gusau, the state capital.
Speaking with newsmen in his office while expressing state government’s concern on the development, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Water Resources, Yusuf Usman Kaura, lamented the greediness of some residents in the state capital, Gusau, who, according to him, construct water reservoirs that redirect the pumped water for their own personal use.
“The ministry is fully aware of some residents that hijack the water being pumped for the consumption of general populace in Gusau, the state capital; some were reported to be using the water for commercial reasons on their own. The state government would not fold its arms to watch saboteurs derailing the ministry’s effort”, Kaura has warned.
Kaura, who informed that the current situation pertaining water scarce was as a result of technical faults developed by major pumping machine, assured that team of engineers that were assigned by the state government, have already addressed the problem.
He further disclosed that the Water Board, which operates under the ministry, procured six million gallons of portable water to serve the needs of over eight hundred thousand people residing in Gusau alone.
He appealed to the affected populace to continue giving their support towards fishing out anybody sabotaging the effort embarked upon by the state government, aimed at ensuring adequate water supply in the state.
