The Director-General, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Ohii said the agency will do everything possible to strengthen partnership with international partners and to ensure the accreditation of its Central Drug Laboratory, Yaba, Lagos.
Dr. Ohii, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, when he received the representatives of the partners, which include World Health Organisation (WHO), DFID, and PATHS 2, said the effort is towards obtaining WHO’s certification for National Quality Control Laboratories.
He said the agency will do everything within its power to ensure the review of the procurement and supply management system for ensuring timely and efficient supply of resources, materials and all inputs within the laboratory.
According to him, the partners will support the institutional strengthening of the NAFDC, Central Drug Laboratory towards pre-qualification in the ways of providing technical support to ensure proper implementation of its activities.
He formerly disclosed that one of the Nigerian’s company that was undergoing WHO’s pre-qualification has finally passed, saying it is a great achievement, as such has never happened in Nigeria.
Dr. Orhii expressed the hope that in the next few years, other companies will also pass the WHO’s pre-qualification.
In her remark, the representative of the DFID, Mrs. Ebere Anyawu said, during the project, NAFDAC will monitor the laboratory system with the aim of measuring achievement of targets while providing timely support to the laboratory.
