No fewer than six passengers and two pedestrians were fatally injured on Monday evening in Abraka community road in Delta State when a popular commercial bus owned by a Benin Son, (namewitheld) collided with a truck also owned by a popular rich man (namewitheld).
Reports said that the accident occurred at a T- Junction along the Eku – Abraka axis on the Sapele Agbor route with both passengers and the two pedestrian severely injured during the incident which was said to have attracted residents of the area to the scene
It was gathered that four of the victims were rushed to the hospital in Eku while two others among them were taken to a private hospital where they are currently being treated and the two pedestrian to an unknown hospital
Eyewitness Richard Oyibo said that the bus driver was unhurt as at the time of this report but was arrested by the police at Abraka police Division, while the truck driver fled the scene of the accident for fear of being lynched by angry mob who reportedly besieged the scene.
Residents of the area who spoke to Journalists on condition of anonymity however commended Oria Abraka vigilante members and others for the role they played during the accident to rescue the victims and other passengers who were trapped in the bush after the accident occurred.
But the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Abraka police station, CSP Hassan Isah Jimoh who confirmed the incident to our Correspondent on telephone said that the driver of the bus was being detained for his alleged reckless driving, adding that the truck driver escaped as investigation was ongoing, and thanked God that no life was lost inspite of the fatal injuries that were sustained by the passengers.
