World Teachers Day: Your reward is in heaven, varsity Don tells teachers

The Deen of Faculty of Education, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Prof. Tijjani Ismail has said that the reward of teachers for service to humanity is in heaven.
He stated this at a Virtual Lecture to mark the 2020 World Teachers Day, held at Murtala Muhammad Library in Kano state on Monday.
Prof. Ismail said, though only God can reward the services of teachers, they also need to be aware of the modern ways of teaching, using computer skills, noting that this would contribute a lot in providing conducive atmosphere for learning, which would bring quality education in the country.
He also advocated that students should as well acquire computer knowledge to enhance their knowledge and ease their study, especially in the area of research.
Prof. Ismail also noted that one of the basic needs of computer knowledge by the teachers and students is the use of zoom, which according to him, could enable one to learn from home without losing lessons, especially with the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
“Government alone can’t make things possible without the intervention of parents, community members ,stakeholders and teachers as well. Our educational sector will be much better if we work hand in hand in promoting education in the country,” he said.
In his remarks, Dr Ahmad Abdullahi, faculty of education of Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano decry on the underlying implication attached to studying not for seeking knowledge, but just for the aim of obtaining a certificate.
He lamented that the growing trend on Monday during a virtual lecture to mark 2020 world teacher’s day, at Murtala Mohammed Library, Kano, with a theme, Teachers empowerment for 21st-century education.
He said that this is the sole a motive for the university to organise the lecture for its teeming academic staff with the view for re-orientating and changing the students’ mindset of studying for having impactful knowledge, not for obtaining mere certificates as part of dreaming to secure white-collar job.
Dr Abdullahi added that in view of the pervasive effects of the growing challenges posing a potential threat to the development of the society, the university deemed it fit bring the initiative come to fore, aimed at nipping the negative trend in the bud.
