Commuters saved me from gunmen – Oil marketer

Date:

From Ayodele Samuel, Lagos

Chairman of Fargo Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Oluwaseun Ogunbambo, has ascribed his survival in the hands of unknown gunmen who attacked him at Ikoyi area of Lagos, at the weekend, to God and passers-by who raised an alarm.

Ogunbambo, who is still receiving intensive treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos, has urged the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar and the Lagos state Commissioner of Police to provide adequate security for him and other Nigerians who are targets of hoodlums.

He said the hoodlums took to their heels due to the alarm raised by passers-by, which attracted other people living in the neighbourhood to rescue him.

The attack, which took place on Saturday at about 8:00pm, few meters to his house, left him in stupor with psychological trauma and body injuries.

Speaking to our correspondent from the hospital where he was admitted, Ogunbambo painfully narrated how he survived the ambush.

His words: “I was returning home when I was intercepted by an unmarked car and some hefty men with dangerous weapons who, pulled me down and started hitting me with their gun butts and other dangerous weapons.

“While attempting to drag me into their vehicle, I struggled with them and some passers-by raised alarm that scared them but not without damaging my ribs and inflicting serious injuries on my body”.

Ogunbambo had earlier raised alarm, in a petition last year, to the duo of the Honourable Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Mariam Aloma-Muktar and Chief Judge of Lagos state, Justice Ayo Philips over plans by some powerful forces, which he said were behind his travail over the allegation of subsidy scam.

He pointed an accusing finger at a major oil marketer, whom he alleged of using his enormous wealth to crucify him before opening his defence in court.
