Wonder to close calling festival

Date:

Stevie Wonder has signed up to close the show at the two-day Calling Festival.

The Motown legend, who scored his first top 20 hit in 1966, will headline the event on Sunday June 29 with US rockers Aerosmith topping the bill the night before – complete with a guest appearance from Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.

Live Nation’s vice president of promotions Toby Leighton-Pope said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Stevie Wonder to Calling Festival. His music is timeless and this show will be one of the highlights of the summer!

“Richie Sambora joins the Saturday bill which is looking fantastic, it’s going to be an unforgettable event.”

More acts for Sunday’s gig will be announced later.

The event was formerly known as Hard Rock Calling and had been staged in Hyde Park for many years but, after a switch to the former Olympic park in east London last year, the sponsors pulled out.

Promoter Live Nation has now kept the festival alive with a further two-day event at a new location on Clapham Common in south London.

Previous headliners include Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Sir Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart.
