A two-term Commissioner in Anambra State and governorship aspirant, Dr Ifedi Okwenna said on Monday that he would shore up the internally generated revenue, IGR of the state within three months, if elected the next governor of the State.
The Anambra State governorship election has been slated for November 6 this year by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Dr Okwenna, who said this when he, along with his supporters, stormed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, headquarters, Abuja, to obtain his expression of interest and nomination forms, also pledged to work towards building a new Awka (State capital) if given the mandate.
The governorship aspirant however appealed to the national leadership of the PDP to create a playing for all the aspirants and allow everybody to have access to delegates.
Dr Okwenna, who said that he has the requisite experience and training to do the job, said, “I’ve been part of the IGR team in that government (of ex-governor Peter Obi), where we moved from 40,000 million naira in a month to three (3) billion within a question of time. It is a terrain I’ve been passing through, we will get there.
“I was part of the Obi government. I was among the three wiseman that designed Anambra State Integrated Development Strategy.
“I initiated it and the others joined me and we developed what we call Anambra State Integrated Development Strategy.
“That was the strategy that Peter Obi used to take Anambra from what it was known for bad thing to what it was known for good things”, he said.
Continuing, the aspirant said, ““The PDP must be prepared to take up power. And what Anambra state needs is not a man with money, or too much money, because everybody in Anambra is rich, But our state is poor.
“We need people that can come with ideas, innovative ideas to rescue us and make Anambra State transform from a rich-poor state to rich-rich state. That’s what we’re looking for”, he added.
Dr Okwenna stressed further, “I’m not an accidental public servant. I planned to be a governor. I started that plan in 1977 when I was in primary school, primary four to be precise.
“I prepared myself to take that seat. That’s why I have the least baggage of all the people contesting with me. I’m very proud to see it everywhere. If you’re looking for Mr Clean, I can contest with anybody”, he said.
