The Management of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) says it is rendering skeletal services within the depleted human resources to mitigate the impact of the strike by doctors.
Spokesman of UBTH, Mr. Joshua Uwaila who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, lamented that several patients have started seeking medical care in other hospitals which are not affected by the strike.
Recall that the National Association of Residents Doctors (NARD) nationwide, declared a warning strike on Thursday April 1, 2021, to draw Government attention to their plights, grounding healthcare services in Government-owned hospitals
But the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige are currently in talks to avert the strike after he had threatened that the Federal Government would implement ‘No work, No pay rule if the striking fail to return to work’.
The UBTH revealed that “since then, we have endeavoured to maintain skeletal services within the depleted human resources now available, to mitigate the impact of the strike.
“In the meantime, several patients have had to seek medical care in other hospitals which are not affected by the strike.
“We are hopeful that the ongoing dialogue between the resident doctors and the Federal Government will be fruitful, and we count on your understanding as we pray for a speedy resolution of the ongoing industrial dispute”, Uwaila assured.
