Anambra guber: PDP committee screens 10 aspirants, ends today with 6 others

Ten out of the sixteen Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, aspirants for the November 6 Anambra state governorship election were yesterday screened by the Captain Idris Wada-led committee of the party.
The remaining six aspirants are expected to be screened today.
The screening exercise, which commenced early yesterday at the National Executive Committee, NEC, hall of the Wadata house, PDP headquarters, Abuja, according to the aspirants was going on smoothly.
The screening exercise ends today.
Some of the issues put to the aspirants by the committee, according to sources, were; why do they want to govern Anambra, their academic qualifications with proofs and making brief descriptions of themselves.
The PDP governorship primaries for Anambra election is scheduled to hold June 26.
The primaries will produce the candidate of the PDP ahead of the main election on November 6, this year.
Aspirants already screened yesterday were; Senator Uche Ekwunife, Dr Obiora Okonkwo, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Hon. Chris Azubogu,
Okeke Walter Ubaka, Barr. (Mrs) Chidi Onyemelukwe, Mr Tony Nwoye, Mr Winston Udeh and Dr Ifedi Okwena.
Those expected to be screened today are; Mr Godwin Maduka, Mrs Ekwochi Genevieve, Mr Ugochukwu Uba, Mr Emeka Etiaba, Mr Godwin Maduka and Mrs Ekwochi Genevieve.
Earlier before the commencement of the screening yesterday, its Chairman, Captain Idris Wada had pledged that it (the Committee) would follow the party’s guidelines and regulations for the screening.
According to him, “We are going to be diligent, honest, thorough and transparent, so we seek aspirants’ cooperation in that regard,”.
The party National Organising Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu, rtd, explained that the exercise was to screen all the aspirants ahead of the primaries, to elect a candidate that would lead PDP to victory in the Nov. 6, election.
Col. Akobundu,rtd, assured that the exercise would be smooth as the committee was committed to its mandate.
He maintained that most parties, including PDP, had in the past lost elections for doing shady jobs in screening of aspirants.
Akobundu said though the aspirants were 16, the committee would determine those that met the criteria for the election.
