Persons suspected to be bandits yesterday shot sporadically into the air in Ukpute community , Oju local government.
Peoples Daily gathered from a source who did not disclose his identity that the bandits came to the border between Konshisha and Oju and shot into the air to scare the people but could not gain entry into the community.
According to him, there were no casualties.
Another source also confirmed to our correspondent that the Divisional Police Officer for Oju local government area told him that there was heavy gunshots in Ukpute community yesterday and he promised to get back to this reporter but did not.
When contacted the Police Public Relations’ Officer DSP Catherine Anene said she is unaware of any incident in Ukpute.
Recall that the lingering border dispute between Ukpute in Oju and Bonta community in Konshisha LGAs of Benue claimed the lives of an army officer and eleven soldiers on peace keeping patrol last week.
