Edo modern market to create 2000 jobs –Igbo leader

Sir Luke Albert Ebubedike, leader of Igbo people in Edo State, has said the proposed ultra modern market in Ogbeson Community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State would generate 2000 jobs when completed.
The proposed market dubbed, ‘Ultra modern international Monee market’, comprises building materials dealers, electronic dealers and electrical parts dealers associations, cut across all tribes and ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Ebubedike who disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists, lauded the State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for providing technical support worth over N14 million towards the project.
According to him, “The net effects would help to decongest the Benin City, attract development, increase in revenue to the State Government and employment generation for Nigerians.
“More than 2000 people would be employed when that project is completed.
“When we disclosed our intention to him about the market, he graciously granted us approval in addition to over N14 million waiver”.
He assured that the initiative would help to decongest the City centre traffic gridlock and boost the internationally generated revenue of the State.
Ebubedike, a Knight of St. Christopher in the Anglican church, added that the State Government policy has affected the ease of doing business in the State.
The Igbo leader who claimed to be the President-General of the three associations, explained that motorcycle operators in Benin metropolis, pulled out of the plan midway when the Government restriction on motorcycles across Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha and part of Ovia North East Local Government Areas in the State few years ago.
“The Government policies have affected us in a great deal. Besides, as a leader, you must manage the divergent interest in Igbo Community.
“We also support the Government policies and obey them as they come.
“The Governor is tackling the issue of roads very well. He is constructing roads and working hard to decongest the City Centres.
“We have Benin people too that are members of electronic and electrical parts dealers. But the Igbo are in majority.
“We are predominantly business people. We also have the Esan people and other tribes there too. He (Obaseki) is helping us to see that the market is built within a year”, he said.
He also commended the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II for his love for unflinching support to Ndigbo.
“The Benin’s are sound and honest people. They are also accommodative and that is the factor that agglutinate us together as Nigerians.
